How-To: Mermaid Hair

One of my favorite parts of going out when I was in college was getting ready with my roommates. It included borrowing blouses, swapping heels, and catching up while doing our hair. One time, during my sophomore year, I decided to wear my hair in waves for a party. My then-roommate always made my hair look phenomenal, be it pin straight or in pin up curls, but it always took at least three hours to do. So one evening, I wore my hair a bit more natural, and my roommate dubbed it as mermaid hair. These days, I don’t straighten my hair quite as much as I used too. I prefer keeping my hair healthy and somewhat heat free, at least some of the time. Since my loose waves mermaid hair is my current go-to, I figured I’d share a tutorial of my beach ready or date night ready hair. It’s the perfect look for when you want to feel dressed up for date night or just a bit put together, while still feeling completely unfussy for our stay-at-home/ remote work uniform of yoga pants and a slouchy tee.

How-To:

Step 1: After washing your hair, press out all extra water from it without using a blow dryer, and then braid your hair.
Step 2: Sleep in the wet braid.
Step 3: The next morning, undo your braid and brush your hair. Then, scrunch your hair with a curl enhancer.
Step 4: Enjoy your mermaid hair.

A Dose of Pretty

Time is an interesting concept. Ever since I was a child, I found that time seemed to fly by. As a kid, it was my summer vacations that felt unbearably long {I guess I felt the need to be productive even then and didn’t realize the benefit of just being able to watch TV for three months straight} but the year would go by in the snap of a finger. As an adult, summers go by equally as fast as the other three seasons, and somehow a decade {or two} feel like yesterday instead of a lifetime ago. I mean, the new millennium has been able to legally drink for nearly two years now and there are legal adults who were born in the 2000s, yet I swear it feels like Y2K was just yesterday.

So, it didn’t surprise me when I realized at the start of this week that we were already over halfway through October. While the weather has cooled down tremendously and made it clear that it is autumn, it still feels strange to think that Halloween will be here in a week and a half, Thanksgiving is a little over a month away, Christmas is in just a couple of months, and somehow it will be a whole new year in about 10 weeks. It was a gentle reminder to truly enjoy the present moment because I love this time of year so very much. Thus, I’m planning on being very intentional about savoring every moment this season in hopes that time can slow down for once. Have a lovely weekend! x
