How-To: Walnut & Brown Sugar Exfoliating Face Scrub

One of my biggest beauty mantras is using food-grade products since we aren’t only what we eat, but also what our skin absorbs. Commercial make up and beauty products these days tend to be filled with chemicals and toxins {I especially pay attention to parabens, which I’ve found in everything from shampoo and body wash to mouthwash}, so to avoid damaging my otherwise healthy habits, I strive to make my own edible beauty products whenever possible. I made this walnut and brown sugar exfoliating scrub for my face recently and have loved the results. The walnuts and brown sugar help remove dead skin, while the honey adds antibacterial properties and the coconut oil moisturizes my skin. My favorite part though is the fact that it tastes like a sweet walnut tart, so I have to stop myself from eating the entire thing.

1/4 Cup Walnuts, ground
1 Teaspoon Brown Sugar
1 Teaspoon Coconut Oil
1 Teaspoon Raw Honey

How to Make it:
1. Crush the walnuts.
2. Mix in the brown sugar, coconut oil, and honey to the ground walnuts.
3. Place it in a container and refrigerate until you’re ready to use it.
4. Enjoy!

How-To: Brown Sugar & Rose Lip Scrub

Many years ago I bought this Sugar Lip Polish on an impulse. I fell in love with it instantly, making it apart of my nightly lip treatment – exfoliating my lips and then piling on a moisturizing lip balm before bed. But I wanted to make a homemade, food-grade version of this since it seemed like such a simple project that could focus on two of my passions: beauty and wellness. I made sure to just use a touch of coconut oil for moisturizing my lips, but plenty of brown sugar for the yummiest of exfoliations. Finished with a touch a rose absolute essential oil, this lip scrub smells divine, tastes decadent, and leaves my lips looking and feeling their absolute best. And with the start of the Lunar New Year last weekend and with love month, a.k.a. February, right around the corner, this felt like the perfect like the perfect way to show my lips some love and start the year of the water rabbit in an irresistible way.
1.5 Ounces Brown Sugar
1/8 Teaspoon Coconut Oil
1-2 Drops Rose Absolute Essential Oil
How to Make it:

1. Add half the brown sugar into your container. Then, add half the coconut oil to the sugar.

2. Top the brown sugar/ coconut oil combination with the remaining brown sugar. Press the sugar in place to get a flattened top.

3. Add the remaining coconut oil and spread it over the top of the brown sugar’s circumference. Note: This will allow the oil to evenly spread over all of the sugar.

4. Add one to two drops of rose essential oil and store in your fridge.

5. Enjoy!
